What is ADS-B?

Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) is a surveillance technology used in aviation. It relies on aircraft broadcasting their own position, altitude, and other information to nearby ground stations and other aircraft, as well as receiving similar information from other aircraft and ground-based sources. This enables air traffic control and pilots to have more accurate and timely information about the location and status of nearby aircraft, improving safety and efficiency in the airspace system. ADS-B is a key component of the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) in the United States and is being adopted worldwide as a standard for aircraft surveillance.
